he killed some coons digging through his garbage.....whoopity freaking doo. I've killed them(even did one with a rake) and skunks(from a distance) for being destructive. The ones complaining are same types of nimrods who won't allow UVic to cull the rabbits.

No doubt, there will be more public outrage over racoons than the murderer that walked free.

Should have invested in a pellet gun, whacking them to death is pretty hard core.

I doubt the raccoon came at him with a knife like that womans daughter who had a history of violence did however. Not saying the killing was justified for sure as I still have trouble with strangulation with a weapon as a self-defense argument. I mean who defends themselves from someone with a knife using a strangulation cord? Ninjas maybe.

He could have shot them, but being Canadian, he had no gun. I can't believe the taxpayers' money is being wasted on autopsies, and an investigation. They ARE pests, NOT pets.

Capture it and relocate it or if you really kill it do it quickly at least. People seem altogether too quick to kill things these days.

I think this guys major problem is he played the wrong sport. I do believe a baseball bat would make a better coon club, but that is just my opinion.

Well, you're allowed to kill one humanely if it's causing property damage. Smashing it to death is kind of over the top. I think it shocks the public consciousness to bash its brains out.

That said, I read in the story that some old bag in the neighbourhood had been allowing the raccoons to live under her porch. Nice move lady, make them unafraid of humans and lure them to those that don't consider them "animal buddies". Also, the comment she made about "they nuvur dun no hurt nobuddies befur" is irrelevant. How the fuck does she know what was going on in the neighbourhood?

A friend of mine told me once that a neighbour of his used to put out food for the neighbourhood critters because his kids enjoyed watching them. But, it brought pigeons, seagulls and all manner of scavenger for the free buffet. Once done eating, they promptly used to go and shit all over everybody else's property. My friend said he confronted the neighbour who replied with the same blank-stare "They're not hurting anybody".

If I had a neighbour who was attracting wildlife that was shitting, eating or wrecking my stuff, I don't think a hockey-stick gooning is the way to go, but I can imagine the outrage.

These days? In the old days in would have happened a whole lot more. Relocating a pest would have been laughed at as a wasted of time and energy.

Not to mention that raccoons are one of the worst animals for carrying rabies.

Call the city. I doub't they will be much help or stop planting cabbage. Country soloution would be shoot it.

When I was young I use to help my fathers neighbor get rid of ground hogs from his cattle pastures, 50$ per ground hog carcass. Fun times.
