The NHL has rejected Ilya Kovalchuk's 17-year, $102 million contract with the New Jersey Devils on grounds that it circumvents the league's salary cap.

    this sort of makes me feel ill when I read about the obscene amounts of money a guy makes, just for being able to skate and hit a frozen piece of rubber, hit a ball with a stick, run like hell when some really big guys want to hurt you for carrying a football or put a ball through a hoop......ok I can understand football players because they tend to be the best educated professional athletes and play the most strenuous sport.

    Good. Are these the same idiot owners/GMs that were bitching about salaries pre-lockout? First chance they get, they exploit a loophole (morons at NHL) and stretch out contracts to ridiculous terms in an attempt to circumvent the cap.

    Right you are, I'm glad the league shot this one down, Kovalchuk should just go back to Russia, they are willing to pay what he wants
