Cheech and Chong to Harper: 'Wise up' on pot laws, man

MONTREAL — Cheech and Chong have some blunt advice for Stephen Harper when it comes to Canada's marijuana's laws. They say the prime minister should wise up to the public will, and pull his head out of George Bush's butt.

And why would the Prime Ministers office comment at all. The public will is to arrest these pot heads, that have grow ops and labs, create crime and are bad for society.

The key word here that can't be dealt with is "wise up"

Wow, they must be really wasted to not realize Bush hasn't been president for months.

Yea, it must be the public will if it was said here.

Bush doesn't need to be president for Harper to have his head up Bush's a$$.

    Come on guys ...

Doing a 180 on pot decriminalization? Big surprise. Bring on the nanny state.

I read a follow up article that said the PMO's office tried to contact Tommy Chong, but all he would say was "Dave's not here man"

I'm not exactly sure Cheech and Chong are the right people to be representing the pot smokers of Canada.

There needs to be a legitimate push, problem is too many wealthy and powerful pot smokers will simply not back any such movement for fear of being personally discredited, losing their jobs, or worse face criminal charges.

I know plenty of execs (wealthy, successful, business owners, managers) around my circle of acquaintances who smoke pot and even worse, but none of them will sign any petitions with their real names, or protest. They’d rather simply lay low, pick up in moderately sized batches, and stay quiet about it.

    That's just how it is.

    Claassss.... Claaaaasssss..... SHUUUUUUUUTUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!

Yea, don't expect a conservative government to actually listen to any suggestions on pot legalization, lol. Hell, Liberals and NDP barely even care about it to begin with. This is gonna be a slow burn until mid-century.

Legalization doesn't stand a chance. You've got the right-wingers opposed because pot-smoking is fun, and fun is a sin. And you've got the nanny statists on the left, the hand-wringing bureaucrats who insist on banning it "for our own good."

Decriminalize it and tax the shit out of it, so I can live the good life on my increased pension and reduced tax burden.

But my guess is the second you did that, every dope smoking, long haired, VW driving, hippie wannabe would be howling about having to pay taxes to the man for smoking something that nature gave us and go underground..............like they already are.

So the theory of it being a tax windfall would likely prove to be another red herring. But we can dream can't we, you guys doing it legally and me reaping the benefits.

Most pot smokers I know don't want it decriminalized, because part of the 'thrill' is its illegal and generally cheap without being gov't regulated (look at tobacco).

I can see it now...people coming into the C-store where I work and asking for "John Players Standard regular and a pack of MariJanes ExtraStrong King-Size please"

So you're saying they would all become Reformacons? I thought you'd like that.

Not at all. The world would be a pretty boring place if we didn't have the entitled for life, left wing lunatic fringe to kick around.

We need this group of malcontents to balance out the yin and yang of Canadian Politics, but just for posterities sake, what does that have to do with smoking dope and trying to avoid taxes?

Are you saying that all dope smokers are Liberals, or all Liberals smoke dope?
If it's the latter, it would go along way in explaining Michael Ignatieff.

most smokers I know (and I know allot) would welcome decriminalization.
They don't even have to tax it, just decriminalize personal ammounts and allow people to have say a 5 plant limit to grow themselves, as long as they aren't distributing it no worries and no crime, no government.
