I have a hard time feeling sorry for these people. One can complain about how Canada treats Aboriginals and many of the issues they have are valid. But this is not about that, it's about an a view that they seem to have, that they are in fact a 'nation' that is unfounded.
Canada and the US bent over backwards for them and the threw it back in our faces. And considering that passports are a highly valuable commodity within intelligence and other circles. Nations such as Canada, the US and the UK would be insane to accept essentially home produced documents that have no security features, nor verifiable record-keeping that i know of.

So Quebecois shouldn't need passports either? They claim to be an unfounded nation as well.
Sorry - you live on Canadian soil, you are Canadian. Pack our passport.
All of this, "We're special and we shouldn't have to follow the same rules as everyone else, and we'll sue you if you try to make us" has about run it's course. I'm sure they don't stick their nose up when they get those nice fat cheques from the Canadian government. They certainly don't mind holding that piece of Candian paper in their hands.
Enough of the bullshit. It's time our government quit caving into this sort of bullshit.
I have to have a visa waiver, a passport and my pr card JUST to cross the border with the US. And they think they can fly to Europe on a piece of paper? Ah no, sorry.
I don't want to drag up tired stereo-types here but;
If the Mohawks and others want to secede, the first step should be no further provincial and federal dollars going to them.
These guys shouldn't be able to have it both ways. Denying they are Canadians but accepting the cheques Canada and Ontario give them.
The hypocrisy is astounding.
And remember, the Mohawks came to Canada with the Brits and the Loyalist Americans.
They have no treaty rights to these lands, they were land grants in given in the same way that the white settlers were granted land for services to the Crown.
Both sets of settlers sold chunks since the 1790's but we have to entertain the descendants of the Mohawks whining about bad deals in the 1830's, yet can you imagine doing the same for some white guy from Belleville complaining that his great-great-great-great grandfather got a bad deal when he sold his 200 acres?
The media and the activists aren’t interested in the historical facts surrounding the Mohawks but the facts stand.
It’s an inconvenient truth but we have seen recently that the media are not interested in the truth, just bad-news headlines.
Looks good on them. Non-Aboriginals in this country are pretty fed-up with aboriginals' antics, and the two-tier treatment by police. (see Caledonia). You live in Canada, be a Canadian. Subject to laws as equals.
I question how a nation can consider itself soverign yet rely upon Canadian funding. Why doesn't Canada treat them as a third world country. Hell they already say we do. Ontario power and Quebec power should charge them an export rate for power and all other infrastructure should no longer be maintained or constructed by Canadians. They can't have it both ways!

I wonder if it is ignorance or arrogance?
