“I was petrified, I was shocked. I was essentially arrested for going to work,” said Yau, who is still traumatized by the experience. “It was just martial law. I had no rights.”

They should have beat this scumbag down - obviously a black bloc in disguise. Nice police work, keeping us safe from thugs like this guy.

Wow, what a surprise, Eye Brock and his buddies seeing/hearing no evil as far as the police are concerned. And taking the particular and trying to make a general case out of it. "you must be either always for the police, or you're against he police." Any colors in your vision at all, or is it really just black and white?

Well obviously there was no reason for arresting this man, I forsee many such stories popping up in the next while (weather real or not remains to be seen), I'm sure there will be lawsuits galore as well. (weather justified or not)

I have no problem with pointing out misconduct and corruption WHEN it happens. Unlike you and the drug dealer who see nothing but corruption and misconduct.

Yep, he could have been on a three day bender and just used this as an excuse. Since the cops dropped all charges (surprise, surprise) they'll just say "Ve know nothink," so he won't be able to back up his obviously made up story. He must really hate all police to make up a story like this. And that sandwich - that was Cammenbert on a baguette, thank you very much. Accompanied, it is true, by vin ordinaire, but we tried our best under the circumstances. What a liar.

If you have no problem pointing out misconduct, why attack me for this post? I see most police doing their best, most of the time. But that's not noteworthy - nobody writes paeans about me when I do a good job either - it's expected. But if I fuck up, I expect to hear about it, as should the police. And the police need us to watch them far more closely than we do civilians, since they are given so much greater powers than ordinary people. Same is true of the military. You take a job as the teeth of society, you have to expect to be watched more closely how you use those teeth. It just comes with the job.

Hey now come on everybody. We just wanted to make a few of those G20 leaders feel right at home. You know, police assaulting and arresting people for no reason.

You take me out of context, when I say weather real or not I do mean that there will be concoted stories out there from people that have an automatic hard on for any kind of authority, I was not refering to this guys story.

Ok, in that case I agree with you. The woman who says she was threatened with rape probably falls the that category. The lesbians who have some sort of complaint probably do too, or at least it's a complaint I won't be sympathetic with.

And that's another thing we must be wary of as the Anarchist groups love to foster these stories after the fact. If a complaint is genuine then all the power to the victims and the police must be held accountable, but it could easily turn into a which-hunt full of fabricated stories and spread on the net by these groups.

Fair enough. The bullshit will be flying in both directions, and we should try to get as little on us as possible.

My reason for criticizing the cops is that I worry about out of control cops way more than a couple of hundred dick head black blocs who have no support and can't really cause much of a problem.

I just wonder if you guys get one of those big huge action plan checks every month for making these ridiculous statements.

“I was petrified, I was shocked. I was essentially arrested for going to work,” said Yau, who is still traumatized by the experience. “It was just martial law. I had no rights.”

Mr. Yau, you now live in Canada where not even Canadians have rights, so get used to it.

I empathize with the guy, really I do. He's doing his thing, walking to work and he gets arrested for shits and giggles and the cops humiliate and deride him even after his supervisor comes along and says the guy is just fine.

I've been on the receiving end of that more than once. When you've got red hair and you're 6'6" so far as the cops are concerned you bear a remakable likeness to every red haired 5'5" suspect.

The last time I got hassled like this my response to the cop was, "Why don't you just call your supervisor before going any further unless you don't mind having a really bad day." Dimwit cuffed me and put in his car and managed to bang my head on the roof of the car as he put me in. Another cop comes along to back him up and walks up to the cruiser I'm sitting in and opens the door and says, "Hey, Pete, how ya' doing?"

Dimwit ended up discovering the glories of graveyard shift.

So here I am someone who has a badge (I'm a reservist and not a full-timer like EB is) and I still see it. It happens, and it's for real. But I get to be on both sides of things and that means that I understand when there's a riot and in all the excitement someone's rights get trampled in the name of expediency and public safety.

And then you go back to the root cause of the issue at a riot; the rioters.

Ultimately, Mr. Yau's inconvenience was caused by jerkwads in black outfits and not by police officers who were doin the best they could in a stressful and dangerous situation.
