EDMONTON - A military amputee was forced to hobble down the Commonwealth Stadium stairs for an event honouring soldiers after being refused elevator service, says his fiancee.
It's still disgracefully, even if the elevator was out of order I would have helped them down the stairs. How hard is it to say "One second Sir, I'll get 2 more people" one carries all the baby stuff, one lugs the chair and one helps the guy down the stairs.
One question is still unanswered though, how did the guy get up the there in the first place.

Exactly.

It's likely that you enter the stadium midway up the first tier. If he had to go down to field level, it would be a hike.
The story has a contradiction however. At the end it says the manager gave the excuse the staff thought it was closed for repair yet the couple said when they arrived they were told they were "Too late to use it." So the staff thought it just went under repair a few moments before? I don't get how it could be too late to use an elevator, they punch out at 4 pm?
Either way, as mentioned already, use your brains and find another way to help.
Reading the headline I was expecting to see some bullshit about the Government not putting an elevator in a Vet's home, but then, I was even more horrified when I read the article.
WTF is wrong with people? There is absolutely no excuse for this type of behaviour.
If the staff was told the elevator was closed...
I wonder how many elevators there are? Only one?

Shameful is all it is.
