An Ontario teen will be stuck in Cuba indefinitely after Cuban authorities ordered him to stand trial for a traffic accident his family says was not his fault.
And why should the goverment step in? When in another country you follow thier laws, and I am sure that a self serving mother would say her son was not guilty. The family does not have to know the charges only the accused. Pay for a lawyer and get it over with.

Well ... harper's regime has a poor history of helping Canadians when out of country.. however.. how dumb is this kid and the mother.. you just don't rent cars in Cuba or Mexico. But nice extended vacation. He will get a heafty fine and repair bill.
"Brenda" said Wow. Another reason for me to not want to go to Cuba
I wish them all the best...
Cuba,, when one goes by the rules is an awesome vacation spot and I go there 3x a year ususally. I don't visit the local towns very much and spend most of the time on the resort. I have been to Havana and Santiago de Cuba several times and have never had any problems. Cuba is safe and the people are great. If you follow the laws and the rules you would have no problems. People forget that it is a communist state and you have to do in rome as they say.

"Traffic accidents are a frequent cause of arrest and detention of Canadians in Cuba," the warning says. "Accidents resulting in death or injury are treated as crimes, and the onus is on the driver to prove innocence. Regardless of the nature of the accident, it can take five months to a year for a case to go to trial. In most cases, the driver will not be allowed to leave Cuba until the trial has taken place."
Remind me again why so many Canadians cheerlead for this regime?
