We have that same problem in the States. The Indians like to hunt Eagles even though they are an endangeres specials. So much for their love of nature and "mother earth" or whatever they call it.
You in the United States would not have the eagles you have if it was not for Canada and those who care and it was not the Indians who killed off your eagle population but the white man and his use of chemicals like DDT.
I say let em do anything traditional they want - as long as they use traditional tools to do it. And no carbon compound bow, but one identical to those in use before contact with the white man. Hunt all the meat they want that way too - but no using trucks to transport it, no freezers to keep it in, etc.
Sure if we manufacture it ourselves , we are not claiming special status to use anything. If they want to live like they did 300 years ago fine, but dont demand to have the perks and privlages of the 21 century.
They would be hunted for "trophy" purposes only AND they are an endangered species. There should be NO EXCEPTIONS to violate the laws that are in place to protect them.
But unfortunately, knowing how freaking pathetic our Provinvial and Federal Governments are they will back down and let the First Nations do whatever they want just to keep the "peace". Sad, really sad.
I see eagles on a regular basis and they are beautiful and amazing to watch in flight and when they dive in the river for fish. The idea of them being hunted so someone can pluck out their feathers and dump the rest makes me sick.
"Wada" said So, should white men be allowed to use the yellow man's gunpowder? Just how far should we go with this shite?
Nope, white men are civilized enough not to want to hunt those eagles. If the red man wants to use the white mans tools, he's gotta live by the white man's rules. Since the white man's tools are so much more powerful, much more care has to be taken with them.
They sure as heck aren't endangered in BC. (Not that there is any endangered species protection legislation in BC anyways. However birds of prey, endagered or not, are protected under the BC Wildlife Act). People are probably more outraged because the birds are cute than endagered.
That said, I can't say I'm a huge fan of vanity hunting, whether it be seals, bears or eagles.
I think this guy is just trying to grab a headline though. Deliberately saying outrageous things to see his name in the paper.
