ADELAIDE, Australia — The first day Abby Sunderland was stranded in the Southern Ocean, Australia's rescue agency chartered a jet to fly over the area where her emergency beacon was activated.

    When people assume high risk activities they should also assume the costs to rescue them, be it ill prepared hikers in the woods or Children attempting to break records.

    At the very least they should have some sort of insurance policy to help foot some of the bill.

    Indeed. I little common sense would have gone a long way. Even with the technology the way it is it is a big ocean and the coast guards of this world have better things to do than rescue "overly ambitious" people.
