Liberal BS - As if they have the credibility to comment on wasteful spending. Lets get an election and finally give Harper a majority and shut the rest up. Canada is one of the best contries when it comes to recovery. Give credit where credit is due.

Good for the libs... usually its the cons taking out ads. This whole summit is a harper ego trip deal and everyone knows it. But hey the king will soon be dethroned!

well the libs have never been big on security spending.....How many times did Cretien have to do his own body guarding duties? The Liberals just don't understand that other leaders wont tolerate their sloppy and slack security methods. Someone outside of the bedroom of a Canadian Prime Minister may be ok for the Lib policy makers but its not ok for the rest of the world.

Results count. How many Canadian prime ministers have been assasinated? How many foreign heads of state have been assassinated in Canada?

Harper should have said no, and saved the taxpayer a billion dollars. Faek Lake is just a metaphor for that.

U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne pledged a “fundamental assessment” of the role of the state and said he will adopt the model used by Canada in the 1990s to slash Britain’s record budget deficit.

Yep, when the Reformacons were in power in Canada in the '90's, they sure did a good job, which is why the UK wants to emulate them now.

That's the funniest thing I've read here today! You've been prattling on about Harper being dethroned/defeated for almost 2 years now and he's still the PM, and still far ahead of Ignatief in popularity!

    that much I'll agree with.

However, he didn't, and I am not convinced that any PM past or hypothetical would have said No.

Iggy would not have said No.

I'm not sure about the cost, but after London's bombs, the protests turning to violence in other areas, and generally the use of military rather than public security, not to mention this is the first time that the two conferences have been held so close together, I can see why our dollar is rising a bit more to pay for it than others.

I'd like to see the break down of the spending post-summit to see what was spent on, since I noticed a lot of the stuff I see on newspapers was beginning to talk about keeping the people safe from civil disputes, keep protestors safe from problems with usually they hit, keep private/public property safe and ward of significant issues like the London bomb issues for crazy aggrieved people who think everyone else is the problem. Not that this should cause it to be a billion, but I want to see exactly what did end up making it cost 1 billion dollars.

1 billion is about a 100% cost overrun, because other countries have reported costs in the 480million range.

However, when the libs spent a billion on the gun registry, it was a hell of a lot more than a 100% cost overrun

Policy X by Party A is okay because policy Y by Party B was worse. Superb logic.

    ROTFL

    WRONG!

Internet persona A is being sarcastically accused of 'superb logic', by Internet persona B. When, in fact,...

Internet Persona B should look 3 more inches higher on his screen and read where Internet Persona A wrote that he agrees that Harper should not have agreed to host the summit.

Then why bring up the gun registry? :?
