I notice this thread is remarkably silent.

Seriously though, this is bullshit. Other nations haven't spent this much money on a summit, let alone making fake lakes and other crap.

I'm not sure how to respond to such incredible financial stupidity. I'm at a loss for words... really.

Darn, I can't think of anything better on which to spend such a sum.

    Oh wait...

Child poverty, the health care system, education...

    Nah, too obvious.

Harper wants a majority. He's hoping we'll be impressed by his statesmanlike demeanor during this summit. I thought spending a bil on Olympic security was bad enough, but at least that went on for 2 weeks and we had hordes of people visiting with two venues. A bil for a 3 day gab fest is just insane. As somebody pointed out, we have plenty of empty army bases in this country. Just hold it there for cheap. If the other leaders squawk, ask them how serious they are about reigning in spending - this would be a good way to set an example. But of course it's always the middle and lower income earners that are supposed to pay - what was that Leona Helsmly said?

Apparently when liberals waste millions its cause for a conservative jihad. when conservatives waste money it's a prudent expenditure.

    Hypocrisy i know thee know

They fill it with Champagne and get Helena Guergis to take a bath in it. If she drowns they'll let her back into the Reformacon party.

It will be dismantled after the three days it will be on display, never to be seen again.

I really don't understand how it could be SO expensive. London had the G20 summit last year and they only spent 30 millions. For us, it's near 1 billion. WTF ?

According to The Harperite Party of Canada there is no problem. The Auditor General will look at all of this......AFTER IT IS ALL OVER AND IT IS TOO LATE TO STOP THIS NONSENSE!!!!!

No looks like a Harper circle jerk took place in planing all of this.

Come on RUEZ! You don't see the mismanagement in all this? This is becoming Harper's own "sponsorship scandal". It has nothing to do with any party affiliation. Just good Canadian fiscal common sense.
