Does anyone have pictures of the platform and the fences? All I can find are pics of the bridge, and the railings on those are about 1.5 meters high...

The article says the fences were the same height where the kid fell. I'm sure he was goofing around - you can't just fall off this area without trying.

But there was the case of the woman who dropped her baby over the bridge - do you remember that? She was charged with murder or manslaughter, but was acquitted.

I have been on that bridge several times and the fence is 4.5 ft high. It is quite wobbly and sways qite a bit. Usually there is some group jumping up and down and making it sway. I could see someone flipping over it if they were tall enough.

He was on a platform, so the only thing I can think of, is that he claimed a bit to see better over the edge, and fell...

    May he RIP

The idiot climbed over the protective fence on a viewing platform and fell 90 metres to his death.

Very unfortunate for the family. I smell a lawsuit, however.

    My condolences to his family.

I'm not sure we should be insulting the dead until we're positive that this was the kid's fault and negligence.

Fair point, mind it's very hard to imagine how you fall off a suspension bridge platform - especially a touristy one made very safe - unless you're jacking around.

Even jacking around, it seems odd and probably difficult for this to happen.

What I don't understand is how a bridge full of students hasn't provided the definitive answer yet. I'd like to hear what the other kids saw.

It could be anything too. Peer pressure, bullying, goofing around, and if so, it's probably more then just his fault.

But again, conclusions are hard without anything definitive.

Not difficult at all - if he climbed over the fence, it's all downhill from there if he slipped. A 90 meter fall is pretty hard to survive. The fence is built close to the cliff to allow people the best view.

As for the definitive answer, I'm sure the police are getting it, but nobody wants to speculate before then. They don't want to see more headlines like the one Bart came up with.

As for stupid American kids, we seem to lose one or two stupid Canadian kids at Lynn Canyon, near where this happened every summer, as they cliff jump into the creek. Almost a summer rite of passage.

Remember from my teen years the old after thought. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
