Sometime this afternoon Ford Motor is expected to kill the Mercury brand. This has been rumoured for quite a while, and it's evoked no end of hand-wringing among the American cognoscenti who believe nothing ever should change in the car business. Ever.
Good riddance. Now if they could only get rid of Ford too!
Never. Ford will own all. FORD FOREVER!!!!!

A sad day for automotive purists who can remember the quality and quantity of selection that multiple product lines used to bring to the marketplace. Too bad that decades of horrible industry management, deplorable treatment of customers, and the fatal collapse in overall product quality finally had to lead to the extinction of the old distinctive brand names.
I still own a 2003 model year Mercury, and I'd put it on par with anything made by Lincoln, Pontiac or even Acura.
My model year had it in the top 10 for initial quality, and customer satisfaction. It was the only car made that year with 5 star crash ratings on all 4 sides. The only failing I saw was Ford's complete lack of advertising the Mercury brand.
