I'd paint "USS Liberty" on the sides of some of these boats.
Why?
I think he's referring to Liberty ships. WW2 ships that were basically armed merchant ships. They gave the Germans and Japanese a few surprises.
USS Liberty was also an American ELINT ship that was attacked by Israeli forces in the 1967 war.
To daye the Isaelis have give no explanation and have been stonewalling it ever since and American Jewish groups have been getting away with since 1967.
Israel doen't like to be reminded of this and to paint that name on the protesting boats world be an unwelcome reminder hoe they fucked up.
THe USS Liberty was an unarmed recon ship that the Israelis wanted to sike. They called in airstrikes and the navy to machine gun survivors in the water.
Liberty was not "unarmed", she carried had a number .50 cal mounts that returned fire.
What I always wondered was why the USN left the Liberty and her crew to fend for themselves.
Always good to know that your fellow sailors have your back.
