It's Memorial Day weekend in the United States - a time to honour men and women who died while in military service - but one veteran says he isn't feeling the love from his government.
Well the military does pay a fortune for all that equipment. However they should make a exception for this guy and others like him. I'd like to see the federal government go to war, get shot than have "wheres my equipment" as there top priority rather than. "Hey doc, am I going to live?.
If this guy lost a bunch of equipment because he was wounded and couldn't pick it up before being evac'd like he claims I'd says the Government is being anal, but if that isn's the case, then, your shit out of luck buddy, so either pay up or find a friendly storesman who'll write it off for ya.
Although the most logical theory here just might be, that once he'd been evac'd his buddies went though his gear and made up their own equipment shortfalls.
I've seen this on TV last night. The guy still has a limp. IMO, it's ridiculous you get a bill for missing equipment when you are transported elsewhere. Isn't it the job of his boss (sorry, I am not into military ranks...) to make sure his equipment is secured? The enemy might run off with it?
Capt. Stephan Bomar with the Oregon National Guard told KOMO 4 it is not unusual for soldiers to be billed for missing equipment. He said it's the way "we keep good accountability for the equipment."
Bullshit. If so, you would write it off as "loss", like every company does.
Whats next, a bill for the evac? Or the transportation home for the deceased?
And of course there is no chance the military stores people just screwed up somewhere along the line.
When I started in Reserves I was with the Navy but due to a move I transferred into Militia. When I finally left outright and was retuning my kit they said "wait, you still have your entire Navy kit to return!" Of course i had returned it years before, just some bone head didn't know how to do paperwork. Lucky for me the army stores guy signed it all off when I told asked him "Who would want to keep Navy kit? Have you seen what they wear?" He laughed and agreed and told me to have a nice day.
In this poor guys case it sounds like there were ample more opportunities to screw up on the army's part.
