Steve Fonyo, the amputee who raised millions for cancer research in a cross-country run 25 years ago, says he's ready to fight to keep his Order of Canada.
Its an interesting story and situation. I could get behind stripping people who have done things that discredit themselves and the order for sure however why are they focusing on Fonyo when Conrad Black sits in jail and still has his? I'm sure a good check of the others who have the order will turn up some convictions or embarrising moments as well yet Fonyo is set to be the only one stripped of it. Maybe someone on the committee that recommends the giving and receiving of these needs to make the criteria more transparent rather than whimsical.
Complete Shame. Ordinary run of the mill guy rises above the ordinary once in his life, must be punished. Corporate scumbag finally gets his due and is rewarded.
Newspeak in action. The definition of hero used to be the person who performed an extraordinary action. Now it's anyone who wears a uniform. Or in Black's case a suit will do.
