Preston Manning: Proselytizer of science

Preston Manning said it. He's not allowed an opinion on religion or science because he's a 'rightie'.

I think his views fit many mainstream Christians, including myself. Science explains how things work. God is why things work the way they work.

Preston Manning isn't supposed to have that opinion about science because in a culture afflicted by rejection of science, it's horrifying that a right-wing religious weasel should endeavor to grasp my support.

I'd feel more comfortable if he wanted to burn books.

Nothing. For all I know he's always held a reasonable position regarding evolution vs Christianity. Many fundies don't

Seriously, what? You're uncomfortable that a Christian politician with a background in physics sees that his faith and science are not polar opposites, but rather fit together rather well in most cases?

Politicians bringing religion and science into correlation and shaping them to a party line has been done before.

The problem isn't that it goes against my views on faith or that it exists outside of my tiny box.

The problem is it exists in a tiny box of things like discussing "white guilt" or pointing out how boring everything would be if there was only one colour of people.

It's one of those "this is a first step down a slippery slope" kinda things that looks kinda okay but isn't.

I think you're over-thinking this. Like I said, Mr. Manning views that science explain how things work, but God is why things work the way they work. There's no party line. There is no proposal to suppress science or say that "So and so happens because God wills it!" in government funded research. He's just expressing a view that I'd assume most mainstream pious individuals believe.

I'm an atheist. Religion is bullshit. Manning is a sensible guy and his position is the only one that we atheists are prepared to accept as reasonable from theists: "I believe science, I just believe there is a hand behind it".

Haha, I just hope one day atheists realize that a great majority of religious individuals take support of Manning's position, and not the more commonly held belief by atheists that religious individuals hate science/technology/innovation.

Edit: Just saw your rep points. I think you're crazy too! Isn't it great that we can see each other as bonkers and not beat each other to death over it?

That'd be a hell of research thesis for a dissertation though.
