A ruling from the Law Enforcement Review Board which found that a racist email circulated within the Edmonton Police Service about aboriginals was not malicious, but rather a poor attempt at humour has local Aboriginals saying enough is enough.
Man, I don't get why some cops are too stupid to understand this. We had a similar issue here where Ontario cops were circulating emails making fun of blacks.
It's bad enough that many minorities see law enforcement as racist oppressive forces, why put things in writing that reinforces that view and then circulate it?
Image is important and regardless of intent, the optics are terrible and the professionalism and reputation of the force has been damaged as a result of this idiot cop. He should not get a free pass because he meant well.

I think the police should complain.
The term "indian" is offensive now? I'll have to inform my native friends.
It's only offensive if a whitey says it.

It's offensive to be called "whitey".
It's offensive to be called "whitey".
Not if another whitey says it. My indian friend said so.
(And just for the record - she works for the RCMP!

Nah.. just a sense of humour (which is really handy when she forwards me her Chug jokes.
I wonder how many "pig" emails are floating around the "aboriginal" email accounts?
I think the police should complain.
Aboriginals arent the government-appointed authority to search, arrest and detain people. Thats the difference.
