An Edmonton man who shook a seven-month-old baby so hard the child required brain surgery to recover should go to prison for three years, a Crown prosecutor said Friday in Court of Queen’s Bench.

Let me correct this: "He should be hit over the back of the head repeatedly with a brick"

For the rest of his life, until he dies... as the baby did.

Explain the logic to me that 'we' should allow this vermin to live so that it one day visit their sick mind and soul upon another helpless, innocent victim???

The baby didn't. He is 4 now.

He noted that the child's prognosis is positive, that Sharpe has no criminal record, and that he entered a guilty plea.
In light of other sentences for worse crimes, 3 years seems reasonable in this case. Doubt if that will happen tho, the judge will probably give him time served or something.

I guess I'm ignorant of context/precedent here, but 3 years seems awfully low to me.

Well, people have killed and gotten less time. One woman in BC got two years house arrest for manslaughter, another, native, woman got 3 years probation. Of the 3 guys who kicked a highschool student into a come, ruining his budding golf career, the stiffest sentence was 2 years. The underage boys got a few months house arrest. I'm sure I can think of more.

At least in this case the guy pled guilty, had no prior record and the baby will be fine.
