The Conservative government will re-introduce its drug bill this week in the Senate, as part of its continued re-tabling of tough-on-crime legislation that died when the last Parliament was prorogued.
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson dropped broad hints
So, by busting people and giving them a minimum sentence for growing as few as 5 plants, they think this'll stop the pot business. So, those personal growers may just quit growing their own and start buying it from the very types of sources that are the REAL problem. Brilliant strategy.

*sigh* Missed the point again didn't ya? Look, 5 plants is NOT a grow-op, it's personal use. By handing out jail sentences for as few as 5 plants it's going to encourage people to quit growing for personal reasons and just buy it from possible questionable sources. Considering simple possession doesn't get you jail time and growing as few as 5 plants will, I fail to see how this will put a dent in the industry. As a matter of fact, it just might end up pumping MORE money into the organized crime section of pot growing and distribution.
The torys are scraping the bottom of the barrel and using crap like this to take the heat off other issues that are pressing them.. they are pounding the drum of the extreme right wing and hope they will get a few votes by doing it.. harper is such a loser... I am surprised that he hasn't perogued parliament again after Milliken's demand... surprised he didn't run to the GG and ask for it.. but then she probably would say no this time seeing how he is about to dump her.
Considering the science and the figures, I find it really hypocritical of these old booze swiggling geezers creating laws that put the hurt on people that choose to smoke a joint after work instead of a shot of whiskey.
