What matter the gender of the players in any sport as long as it's 'one set of rules' for all players?

I'm going to have to totally disagree. A woman should not be allowed to play on a men's team and vice versa. Women have almost all the same sports as men, and they're happy to play. To want to play on a men's team is to incur injury, and to fail at a higher level in which men play their respective sports.

Any woman would be oerwhelmed by the men instantly. A prime example being Hayley Wickenheiser when she played with that European men's hockey team. She didn't dominate like she did playing with and against other women. She barely
surived. Would I leave her off the women's team? Hell no. She has proven she can win there. Would I want her on a men's team? Hell no. One good hit and she's done.

Women should be happy with what they have, instead of stirring up the friggin pot every once and a while. And that 'Human rights tribunal' should have thrown this B.S. out the first chance they got, because that's all this is: BULLS**T.

What's next? Women driving cars?

I think its foolish to want to be playing for the "opposite gender"'s team.

If men and women were equal, and had equal skills, it wouldn't be a problem, but as long as men cannot bare and breastfeed children and women cant pee standing up without making a mess, it is obvious we are NOT the same.

If this girl is good enough to compete with the guys, let her play with them. It's only fair. But then to be fair, what eve guys she beats out on that team should be able to try out for a spot on the girls' teams.

Well, too bad for her, but she needs to find her a better ladies team, imo. Or just accept she is the best one of her team.

Maybe she should leave soccer and take up something that she can excel in that a man couldn't - like macrame or knitting or something.

Well obviously this girl is up for a more physically challenging game, 'cause she made the cut on the boys' team. So she would be just as rough as a boy when she's playing with the girls. She can compete with the boys, that's why they let her on the team. Now they have to let the less capable boys play with the girls, if they want.

And there you have the problem. The "not so good girls", or more, the girls who play for fun, don't want "rough boys" to bust them up. Like this girl said, the game is different. And please, don't pretend those "not so good boys" will change their ways for the "soft girls"...

Her quest for a 'more physically challenging game' will land her in the hospital. There's NO WAY she could match the physical and mental capabilities (sport wise) of the boys' game, not to mention fully adapt to the conditions present.

Your argument is based on conjecture, and has no merit, nor does it make a substansial point of any conceived relevance at this stage of the debate, Andy.

So if the girls get to play on the boys team than the boys should be able to play on the girls team. So what will happen is most of the girls team will be replaced with guys who weren't enough for the boys team. Than we will have less girls on sports teams.

Like it or not guys have a natural physical strength over girls. Have two people, one guy one girl live under the same conditions and after 6 months the guy will still be stronger than the girl. Its not sexist its biology as Brenda said.

That's the silliest thing I ever heard of. The world record in the woman's 100m dash is Florence Griffith-Joyner with a time of 10.49 seconds set in 1988. At the World Athletics Final in September last year the final results of the men's 100m dash were:

Tyson Gay 9.88 secs
Asafa Powell 9.90 secs
Darvis Patton 10.00 secs
Michael Rodgers 10.09 secs
Michael Frater 10.16 secs

You'll notice (or maybe not if you're not familiar with the track world) there were some notable names who did not take part (i.e. Usain Bolt). This means the fastest woman of all time would not have even made the finals of the 100m dash. This means no woman would ever be seen winning a medal in that particular sport, and I'm sure if I checked all other sports involving speed, strength or endurance I would find the same thing (maybe straight shooting sports might be a different story). This questions why a woman would ever want to dedicate herself to sport if it means never being recognized for their effort because they do not have a separate event for them. The girl in the story might be able to compete now, but those boys still have lots of room to develop physically. You can't say the same for a 17 year old girl.
