Border officials make a bad first impression

Years ago, some Army friends and myself applied to become Border/custom oficers,but were told (unofficily) that we were to over qualified and we were not the "type" of persons they were looking for (I don't understand we were all born and raised in Canada)oops... and white males.

I find the Canadian officers here at the border rude and without a sense of humour, while the American officers ALWAYS smile.

It's the other way around at the Ontario/ New York border. The Yank border types are utter wankers.
The Canadian side gaurds have never, ever been rude to me. Rudeness is the order of the day on the US side.

Yep, Detroit/Windsor is, or at least was that way. The ones on the Detroit side had nothing but a shitty attitude and this was PRE 9/11. Heck, I even poked fun of one on the Windsor side to her face for asking me a really silly question, and she laughed about it

Crossing at Buffalo one time, I had the goof ask me, "How is it I have friends in the US when I live in Canada?" Like, is he serious??

Honest to God, on the trip back, when I got to Niagara Falls, I had a cooler in the trunk with a few open bottles in it, and some what looked like Mr. Freezie's in white packages. The border dude asked me what they were, I told him "Jell-o shots. You put 'em in the freezer first." He asked me where I got 'em and told him MA. Next thing I hear is him yelling to his buddy, "Hey Brad, we gotta plan a trip to Massachusetts soon."

Heh, you would be told to get inside because you have to pay taxes here

On the air-side though, the Yanks do a much better job. The TSA staff I have dealt with were professional and could actually speak English.


Compare that with Pearson's 'security' staff.

Minimum wage workers that can barely speak English, many from countries with ties to Islamic fundamentalism. I see a manageable risk not being managed well at all.

A Federal ports security agency with high standards and high calibre staff is really needed here in Canada.

My favorites used to be at Point Roberts. Soon as you hit Canada Customs they'd ask "Where have you been?"
It's a tiny POINT attached only to Canada... where the hell ELSE could you have been!
BC Tel used to service it through the Tsawassen exchange. They'd peer into our service trucks and ask us what we were doing down there. One day the leadhand grabbed a rag from a box, tossed it on my head and shouted "He is refugee! He is refugee!"
We got a ten minute lecture from the 20 yr old girl guard on why that wasn't funny.

Agreed and I too speak from experience.

It made me giggle, so I think she was wrong.

Same with the Ambassador Bridge crossing, though there are some douchebags on the Canadian side too...

Then again, I'm driving a 20 year old Deville that bounces due to a bad suspension. I'd be suspicious too, haha.

Yeah, same with at Coutts/Sweetgrass here in Alberta. The Americans are humourless SOBs, whereas the Canadians just ask how long you were in the US, and say welcome to Canada.

Helps when they ask you for ID and you flip them your Badge I'm sure too lol.

All kidding aside there are like how many million people crossing the boarder each year and only 1400 complaints? Why is this a bad story? Sounds like a job well done to me.

Nah, the Canadian badge thing gets zero respect from these wanna-be/failed cops whose main problems in life come from Canada.

On the level of complaints. It takes so friggin' long to get to and from the NY border crossings, who is gonna stop to complain about the rude US agents? They are all rude, all the time, it's like they train them to be total dick-heads. Well, the training was very effective. They are all dick-heads to a man/woman.

And you guys know I'm very pro-American.
