I can imagine though for Rattman that a final involving 2 Canadian teams would be entirely unacceptable (strictly from a marketing POV)
Although having said that, I've been watchng the Boston/Buffalo series and the reffing is pretty inconsistent and shoddy in that series too
When the Sacramento Kings were up against the LA Lakers some years ago in the playoffs the Kings spent the first half of the game handing LA its' a$$.
In the second half the Kings were treated to a series of controversial calls by the refs that gave LA the game and a spot in the championship game. A decade later the refs in that game admitted they ruled based on pressure to put LA in the final game.
See, the networks want the championship to be between teams in the major markets like LA, New York, Chicago, and Miami. The last thing they want was what the championship should have been in 2000: the Sacramento Kings vs. the Portland Trailblazers.
So it is no surprise to me that the NHL wants final games in the major markets, too.
Referees (in any sport) unfortunately succumb to pressure to make rulings to benefit the networks.

Every leaf fan remembers that fact when Wayne Gretzky was allowed to high stick Doug Gilmour so that the Kings (again its the Kings) could stay in the hunt for the cup. They wanted the revenue.
