How much would it have cost to get all that 'new infrastructure' without using the olympics as an excuse??? Let's knock A BILLION DOLLARS right off 'the top' for security!
The long term affects will be a benefit. Perhaps not for NBC, but who cares about that? NBC's coverage was pretty much crap anyways, so they probably only have themselves to blame.
NBC lost money on the Olympics cause they do a shitty job of showing them. They have for years and we hear about people from the US trying to pick up Canadian feeds so they can actually see whats going on in real time, not what the network wants to show four or five hours after the fact. NBC only shows an event if a US athlete wins it, granted we sure showed our athletes this time around due to their great showing, but for the most part the Canadian networks show the best performances no matter who is doing them. I still think the CBC, (I know, I know) still does the best job of showing sporting events. Especially large scale ones like the Olympics and no question they do hockey head and shoulders above all other networks.
If I remember correctly from this Olympics, the first game between the US and Canada in men's hockey was preempted by NBC. I recall hearing from our US members here on CKA that they couldn't find the game live in the US and were pissed right off about that. That is why NBC lost money on the Olympics and deservedly so.

The CBC does a great job, but I thought CTV did an excellent job this Olympics. Their 3 Channel coverage was great and I don't know if they covered more Events than the CBC usually covers, but it sure was more convenient having Offset Replays of events. I'm not sure how the CBC can compete with that kind of coverage, although I'd be willing to Pay for some temporary Channels if need be, as long as it was reasonably Priced.
and where are they now ?
