That is what doesn't make it funny anymore.
I can see the prank in it, BUT you have to make sure you are in a hockeytown when you do this stuff. It may come as a surprise, but not everyone is that into hockey...
And then the comments from some Americans:
"We should just invade Canada and annex the whole slow-moving country. It should be easy since they don't have any guns."
Seriously? That kind of arrogance and ignorance has got them into big trouble in the past. (Pearl Harbour, Vietnam, 9/11) It's a shame they never learn.
Perhaps we should burn the White House down fo the fourth time.

I wouldn't do that to an Iranian flag.
I agree with some of the commenters who think that after the charges are dealt with that these particular folks be invited to return to Canada.
Personally, I don't think this 'incident' warranted the press it got, nor do the 'perpetrators' deserve any kind of punishment. If anything, it just proves that Americans can't seem to take any kind of joke whatsoever.
And if we were to reverse the situation, you would probably be among those screaming the loudest for their hides.
Stupid, moronic incidents like this do require a punishment so as to discourage others. Community service would probably be best for this.

Yep, it was a rude comment. True that.

Too bad you found a way to make their rude comment almost seem justified.

You beat me to it 2Cdo;
And I'm sure that if the rolls were reversed you would be just as accomadating.
That it was no big deal that 2 Americans in Canada ripped a Canadian flag from a flag pole and replaced it with an American flag then buried the Canadian flag under a pile of rocks.
I know several people on this site alone that would be screaming for American blood if this had happened to a Canadian flag in Canada.
He said he doesn't really know what all the fuss is about.
"I consider it a minor prank. I even giggled to it," he said. "I don't think there was any malicious intent."
Mr. Held said he cares about more important things -- like trying to get a satellite link to TSN for the pub.
Doug Baldwin, outgoing president of the Canadian Club of the Desert, said he considers the flag removal disrespectful.
But filing criminal charges against the two culprits might be a bit much.
Maybe fine them for the price of a new flag, and "move on," he said.
It's a minor infraction if you ask me, some community service and perhaps buying a new flag or two should suffice.
I'm sure no drunk American has ever done anything so heinous
It pisses me off when people say shit like the above quote. Who the hell is ashamed to be canadian because of what a couple of jack asses did? That is just stupid.
