Canada's business executives, not usually a tax-friendly bunch, have acknowledged that it may be necessary for Ottawa to boost taxes in order to get rid of the deficit.

    Politics trumps reason every time.

They're likely correct. Give it a year or 2 and we'll know for sure.

" Other tax increases would also be acceptable to Mr. Ulansky. "I'd be willing to pay a little more on my income tax" and even a boost in corporate taxes might be palatable for the short term, he said."

Ok, so we will boost corporate taxes a little and go from there...

I say it every time, and I'll say it again. Tax imports from China more, we don't need 95% of the crap we buy from China.

I don't think it can be a war when we do everything we can to aid and abet the enemy. More like they're fucking us and our leaders are squealing with delight.

Absolutely - raise taxes in a progressive fashion, and eliminate all those regressive taxes/fees like medicare premiums instead.

That's a regressive tax. But Economists tell is its a good one, and I guess I can buy into the argument that consumption taxes are a good thing. But then Campbell should have lowered or eliminated taxes on low income to compensate - raise the minimum deduction much higher than he did.

I dont care what tax it is. It comes out of my pocket, and I dont like it one bit. Get the big companies and the big money-making CEO's with half a million $ in bonusses every year, instead of the hard working middle and lower class.

See what I posted above - that is exactly what I was saying.

No need to blush, lots of people see it that way. Just not enough in the voting booth.
