B.C. RCMP officer in trouble over Facebook posts

Public posts on the Facebook page include: "Night shift and St. Paddy's Day, can't wait to drop kick all the drunk idiots"; "Bar watch shift tonight, I'm gonna catch me a ginger"; and "How come every chick I arrest lately refuses to put clothes on and they're the ones you never want to see naked."

EVERYBODY should know not to mix business with pleasure.
Still, there is something called "freedom of speech". I don't think it's smart what the guy did, but that's besides the point.

Oh god, we're not going down the freedom of speech trail again.

Course he has every right to post what he pleases, but the RCMP have every right to punish him for it.

Would you be hoisting the freedom of speech flag and snapping a salute if the RCMP officer was replaced by a grade six teacher making lewd remarks about students?

Its his (private) fb page. He can post anything he wants on there, just like he can say the same shit when he is drinking in the bar when he's with his buddies. Sorry, but I dont think his "boss" can punish him for that at all.

There is a little difference with a teacher making lewd remarks about (underage) students tho.

The man is a moron and lucky. I've known any number of "gingers" who would have been looking to make his day.

Have you ever read "lamebook"? If you have to arrest everyone that puts up crap like that on fb, you need a little more jailcells than we have available now.

this guy sounds like an immature power-hungry 10-year-old,with a uniform and gun........... with all the psychological evaluations the RCMP do,you would think they could weed a child like this out.......

What is truly scary to me, is how much damage has he done with this attitude........and that the RCMP will just ship him back east where no one knows what kind of a fool he really is...........

Oh-dear-God... don't make stuff up here as no one has stated jail time. It was suggested you could face disciplinary measures. The military is the same. You can have a Facebook page, but you don't have the liberty to say as you wish. You may not credit it, but not every profession allows for freedome of speech. Like democracy, the military doesn't have freedom of speech, but it protects it.

I did mention it because the RCMP member mused about laying a beating on drunks. That kinda sounds illegal to me - made worse by the fact the the guy saying it is a police officer.

Any scary hump can muse on Facebook that 14 yr old girls are hot - have a teacher do it, and suddenly it is so much worse.

Not much save for the fact that he has posted it on a public website that everyone can see - friends or not. The public perception in his profession is very important, just like judges, teachewrs, etc. One cannot have the public percieving that the RCMP member is biased or ready to carry out criminal activities, otherwise the RCMP would lose what little credability it has left.

I agree with Gunny on this one. It's all about perception!
