More than 500 people have signed a petition to strike down a Montreal-area West Island bylaw that forbids street sports, after a father was fined for playing hockey outside with his son and friends.

I was raised in DDO and played street hockey all the time. Most always without parental supervision. I don't remember any by-law officers stopping by to fine us and send us home. Hmm,I guess I was a lawless hoodlum all those years.

Two boys were playing hockey in a park in Toronto when a large dog started to attack one of them. The other kid started hitting the dog with his stick until he ended up killing it. A reporter for the SUN saw this event and went running up to the young boy that saved his friend's life and asked if he could write a story about him in the paper. The kid said sure. So the reporter asks him, "How about this for a headline: Young Maple Leaf fan saves friend from rabid dog."
This kid says, "I'm not a Leafs fan." The reporter says , "Oh ok, how about:"Young Blue Jays fan saves friend from rabid dog." The kid tells the reporter he's not a Jays fan either. So the reporter asks him what his favourite team is and the kid replies, "The Montreal Canadiennes."

The Headline in the SUN next day read, "Little French bastard murders beloved family pet"

CHOM is playing street hockey 5:15pm today in the parking lot of the Dollard Civic Centre, 12001 de Salaberry (just west of Sources) against the dad who got a $75 ticket last week for playing street hockey...in front of his own house...with his 7 year old kid.

We'll have tunes blasting, cool schwag to win and a few Alouettes hanging out too. Come show your support! Street hockey is Canadian!

This story takes me back to when I lived in Boston.Every day at 4p.m. the highways out of Boston are gridlocked.I used to experiment with cutting through residential neighborhoods looking for any shortcut I could find.Every hundred yards or so,there would be a street hockey game going on.The kids would have to stop thier game and drag thier goals out of the street.I would have to take the DRIVE OF SHAME as all the kids would be giving me dirty looks for interupting thier game. After a few days of trying differnt routes and interupting many games,I gave up and resolved myself to a two hour commute home everyday.Damn I miss New England!
