A drunk driver who fled after killing a Calgary woman and seriously injuring her teenage son has been sentenced to five years in prison.

There's something wrong here...

A drunk driver who fled after killing a Calgary woman and seriously injuring her teenage son has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Darren Coupal pleaded guilty last fall to five charges related to the April 2008 crash, including impaired driving causing death — which carries a maximum life sentence — and two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Can anyone explain this? 5 years = a maximum life sentence?

Yet again our justice system at it's best...

Wholly inappropriate. Especially since he's a repeat offender.

Because he plead guilty he got a 1/4 of what he should of got?
