OTTAWA — Whites will become the visible minority population in Toronto within 30 years, according to projections released today by Statistics Canada that suggest the face of Canada will change dramatically in its biggest cities.
Immigration needs to be spread out across all of Canada, not just our major cities. Why not make new immigrants settle down in a town for a standard 3-5 years and then they are free to move wherever they want?

We've signed a UN convention that prohibits us from forcing people to locate in specific areas. All we can do is try to tempt them to go there. But, there are no jobs or infrastructure for immigrants in those smaller centers. Not that the infrastructure in the big cities isn't straining under the load, and there's no jobs there either with the recession. But we keep importing the same number every year, whether we need them or not. And a significant portion are parents and grandparents of the immigrant, who come here to retire and live off our social systems, especially medicare, without ever having paid into it. But, various immigrant cultures have attained critical mass. They now have the political power to wag the dog, and will more and more fail to integrate as it becomes easier to live and work within the community.

25+% of immigrants are in the family class. A significant portion of those are old folks. Where do you live that you don't know about this, haven't seen it with your own eyes?
72% of family class immigrants are spouses/partners, compared to 20% being parents/grandparents,
Is 20% not a significant number? Let's see: 250,000*.25*.2 = 12,500 a year.
What a racist news story. As if all those who appear "white" should be grouped together. Also saying that we have a "Chinese population". These are people, they are us, we are not "Chinese" or "White" we are Canadians.
Or rather we should be.
We have created a nation where a person?s race and family lineage is everything when it comes to rights and access to resources. The very concept of special rights is written into our Charter of Rights.
Special rights is at the heart of ?The founding peoples concept.? Segregating people by race and culture, discriminating between them based on their appearance and family should not be acceptable. Canada is not part of some White Man?s Burden, some reward for those who were here first.
Canadians are not meant to serve the founding peoples for as long as the sun shines and the rivers flow.
The problem is the very concept of "Founding Peoples" with the ranking of Aboriginal, French, British, Multicultural and lastly ?white? multigenerational Canadians. Canadians who must struggle to achieve special status under the multicultural banner, even when, as we can see in this story, they are often specifically excluded by definition.
Is this the Canada we want?
If we want a Canada where all people are equal, where first and second generation Canadians have the same rights and privileges as those whose families have been here for hundreds even thousands of years then we have to work towards that Canada.
Reject ideas that would give special rights of language, culture, or access to resources based on ancient, racist, ideas.
Accept ideas that move to treat all Canadians, from all regions of Canada and from all parts of the world as equal, equally valuable to the nation all of us call home.
Because we are all founding peoples, we are building a country together.
It sounds very nice. But we've already had proposals to make Punjabi and Mandarin official languages. Won't that just create Babelanada? As for culture, I think the European based, especially English dominance we had here is what made Canada a great place to live, and why all the immigrants want to come here. Do we really want to create another Asia here? How about some of those wonnerful Muslim cultural pracitices - clit cutting, burka wearing, etc.
I think we should retain a culturalist attitudde - ie that our present, European based culture is the one to keep. It's got nothing to do with race, who cares about the color of somebody's skin? It's about cultural norms and behavior.

WTF are you talking about? The article said the two largest visible minority groups are/will be Chinese and Indians, neither of which practice "clit cutting, burka wearing, etc". As Robair pointed out, you really like to just make shit up.
If you are going to be a racist, at least get your shit correct.
For the record, most 2nd gen immigrants do assimilate, so you're worry that our "European based culture" is suddenly going to disappear by all these awful Asians is misplaced.

is what Canadianiam wrote - no mention of restricting it to Indians and Chinese. So even if Muslims remain a minority, I don't want to accept many of their cultural practices anyway. Plus I'm not crazy about just accepting the corruption of the Punjabis, or the racism of the Han Chinese either. Don't care for it much either when a Punjabi leader in Prince George says "we're outbreeding the white people and can dominate after some time." If you think I'm racist, take a look at some of the immigrants.

And should we retain that attitude even when the cultural norms for the vast majority of Canadians have different norms?
Are we prepared to force people at point of bayonet to speak English? Notice I did not ask that of the French as they have some history of doing just that see recent language laws.
But is that what the you would want? A country not unlike a past South Africa where a minority controls the majority.
Would it not be better for all, including those who see that our British history is what made Canada great, to have equal rights for everyone?
That way those who wish to could celebrate their British or English history could do so without oppression when the tables turn.
Would it not be better to argue in the future that our rights as Multigenerational Canadians, or our rights as a minority, be protected because that is what we did when we had the power?
As it is, I would suggest, we have a system that ensures your fears will become reality.

Don't think so Bub.

When immigrating under family class, you still have to pass the medical.
If you're too old and feeble, they won't let you in. In my neighbors fathers case, not even for a visit, never mind immigration.
