Nearly three in 10 of Quebec residents say the province should have its own Olympic team separate from Canada's, according to a survey conducted in the days following the Vancouver Games.

Jedwab says the poll results suggest that only Quebec's unwaveringly "committed sovereigntists" -- and almost no one else in the province -- feel strongly that Quebec athletes should be competing under the blue-and-white Fleur-de-lis rather than the maple leaf.
This makes it a non-story. "Committed sovereigntists" want separation from Canada, and want separate money, government, toilets and sex symbols. It would appear that most in Quebec want to stay, including in the Olympics.
An idea that is rejected outright by 65% of the province's population - it would appear "many" or better "most" of Quebec don't want their own Olympic team. And that's why this is non-news and yet another illustration of the dying separatist movement.
30% is huge, no nation or province can be considered stable when there is a hardcore 30% that want out. History has shown us that a much smaller minority than that can destroy or create an empire, a nation or a province.
Personally I think it would be a good idea for the provinces, or regions (some provinces might work together) to have their own programs. They could still compete under the great Canadian flag but each region could have it's own programs. Then we could have the Canada games to determine who gets to move on.
Of course before that point each region would have to support itself and pay to support the program. Some how I think Quebec, maybe even that 30%, would prefer to keep things as they are.
Of course if Quebec really wants their own program, it is clear we would not stand in their way as long as they shut up and get on with it.

Seperate already or stfu.
Ass clowns... And let me guess, they want "Canada" to fund the training for these athletes..... Piss off already..
That's exactly it.
Also, it would be of great appreciation if you could send a personal contribution, a $500.00 donation or more.
Has someone told them their doing this shit backwards, you need your own country first before you have your own olympic team.
Seperate already or stfu.
I don't think Quebec wants to be a separate country but more likely they want to be recognized as a nation... Let's not confuse nation and country...
Difference here is, Puerto Rico WANTS to be part of the US.
Do they? Then why are they not the 51st state? If I recall correctly they aways vote against doing so....
