Federal legislation limiting the amount of credit prisoners can get for time served in custody before and during their trial has become law, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson announced on Tuesday.
A friend of mine is a judge and we talked about this when the act was granted royal assent. He said they were given that credit because they don't have access to any type of rehabilitation, treatment or counseling before they're sentenced. He thought there was some legitimacy to it but also thought it was open for abuse. If a guy knew he was going away to jail, he would have his lawyer drag it out as long as he could which would shorten his stay in the big house.
About freaken time though
Well it doesn't go as far as the Conservatives wanted but at lest its something.
About freaken time though
As you said, its not enough, but it is a start.
