The Hants County couple targeted by racists who burned a cross on their front lawn say they're now taking turns keeping watch over their property at night.

So sad that racism still exists in Nova Scotia...

It exicts all over the world in one form or another. Some people have nothing better to do. When we stop having special days to recognize the different cultures maybe we will all start thinking that we are all the same. Colour of skin, country of origin, religion or sexual preference - time for people just to live and let live.

LOL! People still burn crosses? Racism is bad but that's just funny. Someone burning a cross to me is the same as someone trying to say the world if flat (which btw is being argued in Iraq on national TV)

    Why pick on Nova Scotia?

This has got to have made Hedy Fry's day.

This post struck a chord with me. I agree with what you're saying and to go even further how about doing away with The Black Mrs. America pageant, the Ebony awards etc. To me it is reverse discrimination. Can you just imagine the uproar if there were a show caled the white Mrs. America awards? Enough division already.

There's a difference between "Black Power" and "White Power". One is trying to encourage Black people to join our success and the other is trying to encourage white people to keep all the success to themselves.

Multi-culturalism doesnt cause racism, Racists cause racism. Period.

If you seriously believe Black Power is just a slogan like Affirmative Action, then you'd better do a little research into what Black Power was created for. I can assure you it wasn't to further harmonize race relations. It was created for the explicit purpose of keeping the races seperated and earning black Americans autonomy within the United States.

Just because the Blacks were oppressed doesn't mitigate the fact that they're just as capable of racism as any other ethnic group and by people embracing they're racist catch phrases just makes it all the more difficult to further better race relations.

You sound like you're in the market to buy some bridges if you believe this BS. What's next, only people of European ancestry are capable of being racists? Fucking self hating whites.......this is why marrying kin is discouraged.

As for the cross burners. if you tie one or two of them to a cross and then light it you'll find that the number of these events will go way down. Guys like Al Sharpton and Louis Farakhan are just as bad as the David Dukes of the world.

There are far more white power neo-nazi's in the backwoods of Truro and Windsor then there are black panthers in Preston. Most people aren't like this and the radicals have wide open spaces to keep their views to themselves but that peace is an illusion. Sooner or later this was bound to happen. The red-neck neo types are big on owning guns and know how to use explosives, some are ex-military. The fools in the urban areas are blissfully unaware of just how quickly this can erupt in their faces. There has been riots in Halifax before over race and there will be again.

This sounds a little chicken littlish. The same can be said about native warrior(gangs) societies and any other ethnically based 'militant' group.
