This isn't a protest, it's an excuse for hooliganism. Lock them up.

Alissa Westergard-Thorpe, of the Olympic Resistance Network, disavowed her group from the vandalism and violence, saying that the protest was "a day of autonomous actions, independent groups, with a diversity of tactics around the Olympics."

She said there was some property damage, but that the people who committed the damage were not the ones arrested. She said she considers the action non-violent as long as no one was hurt, no matter how much damage is caused.

"The people who were arrested were simply marching down the street trying to assert their Charter rights with the police. The arrests were unnecessarily violent."

    Damaging property is "non-violent"?

Vandalism is asserting "their Charter rights"?

Where do they get their inspiration from, George Orwell?

The police had better quell this kind of thing quickly. You can be sure it will get a lot of coverage in Olympic reports overseas.

This really is crossing the line by protestors.

I would have picked up the chair and tossed it at the protestors head if I was there.

    Damaging property costs everyone.

Lock these pecker woods up for 3 weeks until the events are over.

I am surprised by the lack of protesters though, a few hundred? By the way the media made a big stink about the protesters leading up to the event I thought there would be thousands. Just goes to show how much the media overplays opposition to events/governments

I'm guessing you didn't read the whole story.

On Friday, the day the Games began, more than 1,500 marchers opposed to a variety of things, demonstrated as the torch run ended and the opening ceremonies were to begin.

I don't get it. These Black Bloc groups are known world wide for only coming to events to cause damage and start riots. Just showing up looking like that should show enough intent to commit a crime and be cause for arrest. Don't dick around, just scoop'em up on sight. Its simple crime prevention. Unless someone can tell me of what innocent people dress in all black with black bandannas over their faces and congregate in groups of like dressed people.

'Peacefull protest' is a right. But at this point, as regards the Olympics, futile. Settle down and enjoy the games and atmosphere. Tritium is right, lock those pricks up till the games are over, then throw the book at them!

Ever read the excuses from the protestors when these demonstrations get out of hand. One of their tactics is to tell the public it was undercover police comitting crimes to give them reason to go in and break-up the "peaceful" demonstration.
