Umm...its Marvel and its always been like that. Hate to break it to you, but X-men is basically an ACLU brochure. Substitute the word 'mutant' for 'black' or 'muslim' or 'gay' and you've got the main principles of the liberal manifesto. Its always drawn on themes from the 60's era civil rights movement.

Not that I'm complaining, I happen to like Marvel, but thats where they stand politically.

Magneto is never really portrayed as evil in X-men. He was persecuted once as a Jew in a Nazi death camp, and that motivated him to never let him or his people be persecuted again.

Right, or as Republicans call it, "sympathizing with the enemy"

Typical of how 'liberals' humanize the 'bad guy' right? Not the usual cartoon villain who is evil for absolutely no reason, the way the 'right wing' typically sees events.

Apply the Magneto model to modern-day events and you will see how 'liberals' see the world and its current threats vs. Conservatives.

In the X-men series, Professor Xavier and his band are the Liberals, Magneto et al are the terrorists while William Stryker (the guy who 'made' wolverine in his secret lab and wants to destroy all mutants) is basically a Dick-Cheney carbon copy.

Eh...did the X-Men comics really base themselves on the various events during the 2000-2008 years?

    Its a timeless lesson.

Apply that to the Cold War, civil rights, etc its the same thing:

e.g.: The Black Panthers were the Magnetos of the 60s.

The Viet Cong were the Magnetos of Indo-China.

The American war hawks, Senator McCarthy, KKK, segregationists, etc, were the Strikers of their time.

Its a world view and a general comment on human nature, not of one specific event.

1980's actually. You know the corollary to the saying "Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it." ? It's: "Those who do study history realize that we are".
