The 'Eh O' uh-oh effect

VANCOUVER -- What kind of winners will we be? Will we go jingoistic? Will we turn into ugly Americans who chanted "USA! USA! USA!", while ignoring the rest of the world, especially on U.S. television?

This article is just sad. Apparently Canadians are the only people in the world not allowed to be proud of our athletes!

BTW, the only chant I want to hear is "Da, Da Da Canada! Nyet, Nyet, Soviet!" at the hockey gold medal game.

I hate it, because it's too contrived. Perhaps they should concentrate on Marketing their beverages? We'll take care of the chant, if there is going to be one.

Canadians know the top hockey players, curlers and figure skaters in the world, but after you get past them, who do you know?

How many of these other sports receive any TV coverage? If you participate in these "other" sports then you'll know who's in the upper echelons, otherwise the average Joe doesn't have the time to follow every fringe sport out there.
As for the cheer I think it's idiotic for "the man" to come up with it. It should be something that's a little more grass roots. "Eh-O Canada Go" sounds like you're asking for the Canadians to leave.

And that's exactly why I hate that stupid cheer. Sponsored by a corporation to sell more of their shitty product.

I dunno if it still is, but calling someone 'un pepsi' in Quebec used to be an insult.
It was a holdover from when Pepsi was considered poor man's Coca-Cola. Besides, Pepsi sucks.

Pepsi sucks in general, and whoever wrote that article needs to be less of an globalist pussy and take some pride in Canada and her teams.

Of course we are! I'm going to work with Maple Leaves on my face. I put a huge 6x4 flag in the window at work.

Good for you Mr C! Show your pride!
The area where I work is a very touristy area to begin with. I swear there are more Canada flags on virtually every window of every business than there were last Canada Day, my place of employment included. When the torch went by yesterday all the locals came out in force wearing red and waving flags. All our staff are going to wear something red every day for the next 2-1/2 weeks. I've already bought a couple of red Team Canada T-shirts and will go buy my hockey jersey tomorrow (finally have a day off to do this) to wear on the days Team Canada is kicking ass in hockey!

This article was kinda sad. Why does there have to be an offical chant anyway? Just support our athletes and hopefully we'll do our best to put on a great show for everyone. I must admit I was feeling resistant to this whole thing but I have gotten caught up in it and living in a venue city (Richmond) which has been disrupted to an extent, oh well. I'l never see this again and I intend to make the most of it. I'm fortunate to live within walking distance of the O-Zone where there will be alot of concerts, Heineken House, and other stuff taking place, all for free! If any local CKA members are considering heading this way let me know and perhaps we can meet up!
