PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The scientist in Dr. David Dosa was skeptical when first told that Oscar, an aloof cat kept by a nursing home, regularly predicted patients' deaths by snuggling alongside them in their final hours.

I have seen a show some time ago, I believe on the Discovery Channel, about this very subject. In the segment they visited a nursing home where the resident cat always picked a certain room to rarely leave as the patient breathed their final hours. I'm not sure if this is the same cat though.

What a remarkable trait for a cat, who are generally viewed as selfish, to seem to be proviing comfort to another being as they pass.

I, personally, would take comfort in knowing my final moments were at least with a furry friend at my side.

Though Shep is cool in his own way I was thinking more in the lines of a cat or dog...
