A small team of scientists is returning to the icy shores of the Northwest Passage this summer to install experimental listening devices that could one day keep a 24-hour watch for anything travelling on, over or under waters Canada claims as its own.
fantastic idea and a step in the right direction however, IF we detect something what ability do we have of DOING anything about it?
We can still fly CF-18's out and shoot them.
What Canada should do is buy some nuclear powered submarines, something like the USA's Virginia class or the British Astute-class submarines. Those should have no problem getting out there under the ice

Only curious as to the reason they should reveal any details about specific locations of these devices.
A 'strategic leak' of a system capability is typically done for one of many reasons. Foremost among those reasons: to mislead a potential enemy into thinking you gave them accurate information, to send a message to someone who's already been in those locations that you already know what they're up to, and so no one bitches when their unidentified sub gets sent to the bottom in one of those locations.
