I couldn't believe it when I read about it in the paper yesterday. Those doctors sure think they're God.

Big surprise there. Once they get their acceptance letter to Med School their belief in entitlement starts. They start to believe they are never wrong and anything they do is on the up and up..........because they're "doctors"

Another little thing they don't mention is who "may" be doing the actual surgery because you'd never know. An example is that someone may have waited months or years to have a certain surgeon perform the procedure because they are a leader in that field. Yet when it comes time to have it done, the procedure is actually preformed by his resident. The guy you think may be standing right behind him or just outside the OR but it's not his hands working the tools.

Well, maybe it is time to change that.

Yes.......along with having them act and dress like the doctors they think they are.

I'd say this is highly unethical as well as shocking. Both the Royal Alex and our Ob/Gyn here in Edmonton always asked my wife for permission before a student ever laid hands on her.

If you go by 'Grey's Anatomy' they practice pelvic exams on each other regularly...

This is outrageous and disgusting. I realize medical students need to learn, but more importantly the patient is a human being they have rights and feelings.

For Brenda: They probably don't practice on each other as they would consider it a violation of their privacy,

A Doctors privacy is sacred, a patients privacy well ... They are just patients.

Unreal. Complete violation of a person's rights. No respect or regard for the person the pelvic area belongs to. A patient should always have the opportunity to agree to any procedure being conducted on them. The very idea that this type of thing would take place makes me lose all respect for those in the medical profession. If someone is willing to be a "guinea pig" for medical students to "practice" performing a pelvic exam, fine. Otherwise I would EXPECT respect for the private areas of my body to not be viewed or "practised" upon by anyone.
