Police don't make laws, they simply enforce them. No matter how stupid the laws may be.

Rideau-Vanier Coun. Georges Bedard says property and business owners in the Byward Market have reported disturbances when people gather in large groups, especially after bars and restaurants close.

Holy shit!! What time do the bars close there, like 6PM?? And how late are these other businesses open? In Ontario, the bars close at 2AM so I'm not really sure how these people are interfering with the businesses in the area.

This reminds me of the Irish Dublin law where you get fined for anykind of blastphemy against body including Al Quada.

If this law could be enforced by some magical means imagine the amount of money that would be raised.

Better read that again, it has nothing to do with the cops. It some nut bar on City Council that wants it introduced/enforced.

    Open until 2am

What it is for the most part they have a problem with the smokers, that congregate outside the pubs/bars to smoke. Carrying of course the same atmosphere outside that's going on inside when they go out for a cig.

Most of these places are no where near residential areas, the Market for example is just bar/pubs/restaurants/shops. I suspect its just few crusty toads that have a problem with young people letting it all out on a friday night.

Probably upset because they can't read some poetry in peace on their favorite patio anymore while sipping expresso because of all them damn youngsters, doing what they do at that age, living.

Ottawa the city that fun forgot.

Unlikely. Stupid is too stupid to know when to leave. Usually stupid feels the need procreate, and it does so by spreading its stupidity through spores we call forum posts.

Wish I lived in Ottawa. I'd love to raid their libraries and drag out all those books with indecent language. Oh, what a bonfire we would have!

I think I'm going to start shouting obscenities on downtown streets now. This city really has its priorities screwed up.

We ban people from swearing, but when someone stands up and calls for the killing of non-believers we let them in the name of religious freedoms... So what we need to do is create a religion and as part of the requirements, everyone must swear at lest once a day at the top of their lungs. Remain at all times armed with a pound of C4, an M-16 and wear a shirt with a picture of Muhammad, who is holding a cross and wearing an explosive vest.
