J.D. Salinger, the legendary author, youth hero and fugitive from fame whose The Catcher in the Rye shocked and inspired a world he increasingly shunned, has died. He was 91.
Anyone seen the movie "Finding Forrester"? I recall reading that it was based on Salinger and some sort of true story associated with him. In any case, I'm sorry the man is gone.
I don't know about nowadays, but you can't really grow up in Canada without Salinger having an effect on you. Or guys, anyway, can't say a lot of women seem to mention him. I hope he had a good life.
While packing for our move a few weeks ago I came across my high school copy of Catcher In The Rye. Right smack in the middle of the book was and coloured advertisement for Cool cigarettes! Wow....times have changed.
I find it hard to be sad. Not just because I HATED Catcher in the Rye with a passion. It turned me off of books for YEARS... but also because he's been a recluse for so long, its almost like he was already dead. Like finding out the dog that ran away 10 years ago had died..you already moved on

Stealing books from school. Shame on you. Did you pinch some Shakespeare too? Maybe an atlas or two?
