Another game were the fans should of just got up and cleared the building after the second and went out and played in traffic. That would have been more exciting.

I think with all the high price contracts that Kev gave out 2 years ago. There's to much job security there. ( no manager in their right mind would take on contracts like that. ) so no trade bait.

Until they have to play for another contract, that is what Oilers fans are going to have to live with for the next a couple of more years.

Well as bad as the Oilers are playing right now, let's remember they are missing their best scorer and starting goalie. Back when both of them were still in the line-up, the Oilers were at least a mediocre team, without them it's pretty obvious that they're terrible.

I wonder what Calgary's record would be if Iggy was gone for the season and Kiprusoff missed two months of hockey. Or Vancouver's without Sedin and Luongo. They might not be in cellar, but their record probably wouldn't be much better. I'm not making excuses (especially as I'm not an Oiler fan), but considering that that's all the Oilers really have for up front scoring and goaltending, it's not surprising that they're sitting in the cellar.

What's disappointing is that no one has stepped up like has happened in the past. 'Skilled' guys like O'Sullivan, Gagner and Cogliano have all been invisible since Hemsky went down.

The one Flames game I went to in Cowtown (against Anaheim if I remember correctly) last year, they started him and he stunk up the place. I'm surprised he got his job back this year.

Your living in the pass Boot. Hemskey had 7 goals in 22 games when he went down, and he got 4 of those in one game. He took more nights off this year than the guy that's suppose to make sure the beer is cold at Rexal

And even Kipper would have problems with all the blind cross ice and up the middle passes the Oilers gives up every night. Cure that problem and they might win a few games.

Say what you want about Hemsky, but he was their best offensive weapon, and that meant the other teams' best checkers got to watch him (and his line) all night long. That created a bit of room for the Oilers other marginal talent (like Cogliano, Comrie and Gagner). Without Hemsky in the line up, those checkers smother those other 'skilled' players, and remove that open ice those guys have.

I'll admit that their defence is atrocious and highly error prone, but that is not the only reason they are cellar dwelling at the moment. There is plenty of blame to go around...

And you can say what you like about Hemskey. I say he has a bad attitude because his centerman makes $3.5M ( with bonuses ) more than he does, and most nights only works as hard as Horcoff does. The night he scored the 4 goals was the night Quinn split those 2 up. They ain't going to get Hemskey's full effort until he top dog, salary wise. And that isn't going to happen for at least another 2 seasons or until Kev gets some other GM drunk enough to take Horcoff off his hands at $7.5M a year.

Souray said today that he'd be willing to shed his no-trade clause. I'll take that as a polite way of him saying "get me the fuck out of here".

Oiler's could be sucking for another 3 years at least but us fans will still be able to talk NHL hockey.

Oh, Pronger was right. What twenty-something millionaire wouldn't rather live in California than in Edmonton? Heatley made the same decision, as have plenty of NHLers, who favour warmer, more happening locales than Deadmonton.

Souray's talk to me sounded like a genuine willingness to help the team out, while Pronger just wanted out of Dodge fast.

Maybe the Oilers should just trade everyone they can and be cellar dwellers for a couple of years, then they can draft the next Crosby-Malkin pairing. Then make sure they get locked into long term contracts so they can't flee like everyone else!

That is exactly what I said about the Leafs only Burke blew it big time. With 2 first round picks next year I was perfectly happy to finish dead last. Trading them both (and a second rounder) for Kessel was a big big mistake and we see why. He isn't good enough to turn a team around and we have few ways to add help. Our only hope is Kadri becomes a wonderkid and pairing him with Kessel provides the spark.

As it is, Boston stands to be the biggest winner in a trade ever.
