More than 20,000 people have joined an anti-prorogation group on Facebook following Prime Minister Stephen Harper's decision to suspend Parliament for two months until after the Vancouver Winter Olympics
Wow. I could start a Facebook group demanding that they remove the letter X from tins of Alphagetti and get 40,000. Ha ha ha.
That said, this probably backfired on Harper. Too calculated, with the gov't announcement the same time as the Canadian Olympic hockey team was unveiled. Even if they don't fully understand what proroguement means, some Canadians are left with a nasty feeling that they've been had. That and the Conservatives rode to power on the princple of things like a work ethic, and they've just voted themselves two months off. With pay. I think that ticks people off too.
Boo hoo. Chretien prorogued parliament four times as PM.
Obviously we were not blessed with Facebook in the 1990's to register our cats, hamsters and 3 year old kids disgust at these diabolical Harperite machinations.
What's really depressing is that it wouldn't matter if they had 5 million....no even 5 Billion, nothing is going to stop any PM from using this legitimate function of parliament to their gain. There;s been something like 10+ prorouges in Canadian history and probably half of them were used to the PM's advantage.
It's like getting a facebook group dedicated to releasing Manson. Ain't going to happen even if God himself joins.
What useful was coming from the Parliament anyway since some time ? Just blabla and name calling. The MPs will get some vacations for the Olympics, Harper will be able to choose some senators and a new session will begin in 2 months. Big deal...
The parliament is prorogued between each session. It's just that it was done a little bit early this time. Actually that make sense to prepare another session earlier with the end of the recession and all the changes.

Facebook groups are just meaningless.
