It's not as if it hasn't been tried before. Al Qaeda doesn't have one head you can just cut off - they're all over the place. And the missiles usually kill of a lot of "collateral damage" which is a great recruiting tool for them. The only way to stop Al Qaeda and their ilk is to stop supporting the dictatorial and corrupt regimes that breed them. And to quit importing people to the west that harbor the ideology.

We should just pull out of these shit-holes and leave them to the Stone-Age they so obviously long for.

To do that we'd have to give up our oil addiction - that's the only reason we really care about those regions anyway. Either the country has oil, or is a pipeline route for oil. If the US went to nuclear and coal gassification, as well as investing in researching new energy sources, they could do it. But they don't have the discipline - want to be an empire but not pay the price.

Canada could easily be self sufficient in oil. Roll on the day when the west no longer needs the raw materials of despots.

We are. But we find it cheaper to import oil to the east coast and export Albertan oil south. It would be expensive to build the east west pipelines, and Alberta would scream like a stuck pig. But so what if we are self-sufficient. We have no impact on the world, would make no diff to the scheme of things the way it would if the US did it. And Canada wants to be a trading nation, sell our resources to other countries, buy their cheap crap that they make with our resources. Doesn't, buj make much sense to me, but does to the people who are making a buck off it, and they run the show.

We are a trading nation and it makes business sense to get the cheapest product.

The problem is, as long as the west and the Islamic world continue to fight a war in all but name, we are supplying cash to our enemies.

The yanks need to stop worrying about 'dirty oil' from Alberta and consider the political implications of buying 'clean' oil from 'dirty' nations like Saudi Arabia, Venezuala, Iran, Iraq etc. The nations that are funding the jihadi's that are trying to kill us.
