"I said I can predict that Quebec is going to go grandstand (in Copenhagen)," Stelmach said. "I didn't think Ontario would because there's a lot of jobs in Ontario that are dependent on the oilsands." The premier said he thought cooler heads would ulti

"Trumpeting Alberta's green credentials." That's pretty funny actually.

Carbon tax per ton CO2 in Alberta, by the Alberta government: $15.00

Carbon tax in any other province or state in North America: $0.00

Those revenues are being used to develop green technologies, and for CCS as an intermediate solution. But you, of course, think that Alberta is the one that would be the last to act. We are, in fact, the FIRST.

Carbon tax in BC -- 2.,4 cents/litre. Going up to 7.2 by 2012. Another oine batted out of the park.

I wasn't even talking about global warming though. Mostly the fresh water use. Did they at least stop pumping it underground yet?

We know the oil sands are valuable--even critical--to Alberta's economy. And we know that the government will do all it can to protect that investment. Fine--I sympathize, I really do. But then don't turn around and string a line of BS that you're somehow more environmentally conscious than everyone else.

Reminds of that (possibly apocryphal)line from one of the lawyers in the Rodney King trial: "If you play the tape backwards you can see the officers are trying to help Mr. King up."

Yes, and we all know what a hero Rodney King turned out to be.

Don't see anything about fresh water use in that statement.

I dont understand this 'oilsands emmisions' nonsense, if the east thinks that Alberta is send out too much emissions, just what the hell do they think happens when the oil hits the consumers all over North America?

For the record; I'm all for the 'tarsands operations' being streamlined, and cleaned up in everyway possible. However, this is not going to happen 'overnight'. The only way this can happen 'right away' as so many are demanding, without having a clue as to what is involved in such a process, is if Alberta were to cease oil operations completely! Wonder how impressed ROC would be when they go to fill up their 'gas guzzlers' in a few days, a week, a month? What do you think the price per litre at the pump would be for imported fuel eh? Doesn't matter. You wouldn't be able to afford to run your lawnmower!

Hello 'pot', this is 'kettle'. On the subject of 'clean water'. Take a look at what B.C., and Atlantic Canada does to 'clean water'!

Ahh, the tried and true Alberta political tactic of blaming other provinces. It's been done since the province was formed and the sheeple here love it.

Who's blaming who? Is Quebec and Ontario not responsible for CO2 emissions?

Charest and McGuilty were the ones who started the blame game.

True, Victoria has a debate about sewage. Apples and oranges really when comparing the permanent poisoning of fresh water in the oil sands project and the potential poisoning of sea water off the coast.

Keep making your irrelevent arguments though.

Zip tried to raise an argument about CO2 emissions and quickly tried to switch it to fresh water usage so :P

By all means, the fresh water usage for the oil sands is relevent as that water is lost for human consumption. Comparing it to Victoria's debate on whether to pump sewage into the Straits of Juan de Fuca or to treat it and ship it off to a dump simply demonstrates desperation in failing your argument.
