The British Columbia community of Grand Forks has been overrun by hundreds of deer, and just what to do about the out-of-control population is dividing residents of the Kootenay town.
I wonder how many of the townsfolk who are complaining of the overpopulation now were some of the people feeding them, lol. Sounds like more a people problem to me. Of course these animals are going to stay close to a food supply in the winter months so impliment fines to the offenders and allow hunters to minimize the population, problem solved.

As it is in most cases where there is an "animal" problem. The only problem animals are the people involved. We still haven't learned that we are not as smart as mother nature.

Absoultely agree. And it's unfortunate that the animals (non-human) far too often pay the price.
It's been a while since I was in that part of the country, but if memory serves, it's usually elk they have problems with there in the winter. Especially when they use the railway cuts instead of slogging through the snow. Kinda makes a real mess when that coal train comes thru.
The tracks to Salmo are gone too. It stops at the Atco (lumber company/mill) and they use it once a week (Tuesdays at 10.30 ) to transport lumber to the US. (That is, if they don't tip over and fall on the highway )

Damn I guess it's been a bit longer than I thought.....well, they do say that after your eyesight, the memory is the next thing to go....
"Mockingbird" said Haven't heard the name Salmo in a long time. We've done the winter drive over the Salmo Creston summit a few times, pretty scary at times.
They close it often... As do they the Paulsen summit.
So far, hardly any snow. I hope it satys that way. 8 ft from dec to april is a bit much.
