"We're committed to Senate reform and so is the prime minister," Lebreton said during an interview in her Parliament Hill office Friday. "But (Harper) has also made the point that we couldn't continue on as a government having our whole agenda and all of

Good! now that the Liberals will lose their advantage they might finally agree to senate reform. No sense keeping something around if it's of no use to you.

I thin this is a good thing to see a change in the senate.

Good thing that we can finally get some policy passed instead of it being stalled just because it's not from their side.

Our senate isn't elected so it cannot change easily. Seeing another party there instead of the Liberals for a few years is a good thing for democracy IMO.

I'll agree, just hope they actually do it.

Not so easy to get people to agree to basically terminate themselves.

I think if anyone can Harper can, he seems to have more control over his party than the Liberals do. Plus I bet he placed people in the Senate who he knew he can control, or at lest those that he knows support Senate reform.

Why would you think this would be any different than when Mulroney stacked the senate?

It'll last a year or two, the Liberals will be reelected, and they'll re-stack it.

Don't you ever get tired of this game?

I've honestly never heard of Conservative appointed senators holding up or diluting bills.
It's been very well publicised that the folks Harper has put in the senate all agree that they will approve or step aside if changes to the senate are proposed. Can your Liberal senators say the same?

Because it wouldn't make sense for a minority to try to stall a bill. How often is there a majority of Conservative senators? About as often as they get a majority in the House.

I'm not sure I'd want them to. Maybe our first conservative prime minister was on to something when he created it.
