Look like it's time to stick a fork in the natural ruling party 'kaus their done.

Time to bring up Justin. Nothing else has worked.

Not surprising considering Iggy and Dion.

Maybe this will teach the liberals to work WITH the government then try and be constantly against it.

It will go far to letting them know that their not "entitled" and they have to work to earn those votes.

They will have to go through a tough time of reinvention. Dion is a brilliant man, couldn't get down with the game of politics.

Iggy is just as brilliant as an intellectual, but what I don't like about him is that it is just now in the past few years that he has turned his talent toward his country. Before that, joining scores of talented and brilliant Canadians before him, he was a smart-ass who thought he was better than this country, and he went abroad and made fun of it, somewhat. Canada was too provincial for him.

It's true that Canada is provincial in many ways, but maybe if her gifted citizens had more respect for her and worked with her instead of despite her, it wouldn't be that way.

don't tell that to Derby. He was chastising conservatives on another thread because their party was re-invented and merged etc.

The CPC was more than a re-invention of a party. It was the re-invention of Canadian conservatism, and in my view losing the old PC to the merger was a great loss to Canadian politics.

I don't wish for the LPC to merge with anyone. I don't really know what they'll do. I actually have no party preferences anymore. I'm not sure which party I'll vote for in the next election.

That much is certain. If the Reform Party era schism hadn't happened the Chretien era probably would have ended by 2000. The unjustifiable and foolish anti-Mulroney rage within party ranks almost led to the death of organized conservatism in Canada.

Well spoken sir. I too miss the PC. I think absorbing the reform party was a bit of a big mistake in the long term.

The liberal party has melted down. Mostely because it lost connection with middle class voters. It began long ago but hit it's Apex with Chretien who barely had the time for the middle class Canadians who actually vote parties into government.


That being said the CPC isn't anything special, they've simply taken the middle road and it's worked for them

They shifted too far to the left. People don't want the NDP in power nor do they want NDP Lite, which is essentially what the Liberals have become. Martin tried to right the course, no pun intended, and look what happened to him. Until they can reconnect with their liberal roots and ideals, they will remain Liberals in name only.

Martin was hamstrung, he was identified with the Gomery inquiry because the liberal party was direvtly responsible. Martin could literall have been jesus and he still would have lost. The CPC was simply in the right place and the right time.

The CPC if it goes off the rails like the Republican Party has down south will meet a worse fate, the actual 'right' wing of this country is incredibley small. Conservatives actually seem to think that people who voted for them di so because tey too are conservatives. Not so, they're moderates who lost faith with the Liberal Party. And as long as Stephen Harper keep a tight leash on the bible thumpers and neo-cons in hos own party he will retain power. But if the ever get loose and become the Canaidan vresion of O'reilly and Beck, they'll quickly find themselvs int he hinterland
