Much to the annoyance of Owen Sound, Toronto's Port Authority announced Tuesday that it has gone ahead with a plan to rename the Island airport after World War I flying ace Billy Bishop.
I think it's a hell of a nice thing for Toronto, of all places, to be honoring a military hero with his name on their airport. I guess I would more expect them to name it "David Suzuki International Greenhouse Gas Emissions Airport".
Sorry Owen Sounders,(Owen Soundites?), But Billy Bishop is a NATIONAL hero not a regional one, so it is only fitting that the largest city in Canada should name their airport after him. Besides, they may have named it the Iggynational Airport, or the Cretien Airstrip, or the Dionodrome!(Or what Bart suggested - Ugh)
The Toronto Island Airport has a great history as a WW 2 training base. Among other things, it became the training base for the Norweigian Air Force after that country fell to the Nazis. Why not honour that real history instead of trying to falsely associate it with something else?
great, now tourists are gunna be bass ackwards when they try to travel from Toronto to Owen Sound.
"we're going from the billy bishop airport and taking a plane to...billy bishop airport"
this reminds me of "roughriders VS roughriders"
this is what happens when our most creative people run off to hollywood! lol
