Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay - "Based on our interpretation, we believed that we were following the rules"

Oh Martha, aren't you sure what you really meant was "Based on our interpretation, we believed that we found the loophole."

One might also question why their asking for party donations when there isn't an election called?
    Shame, shame.

So... You guys are saying that having the official opposition ask for donations is the same thing as Steve handing out my tax dollars with a big shiny conservative logo and some asshole's face on a big huge cheque?

    Riiiiiiiiiight.

No we're saying it's worse. We pay for the site, they use it to raise funds. It's not the Liberal website Curtman, it belongs to all of us -- remember the talking points?

A CPC logo on government cheques is wrong and crass but little different than crediting the construction of the entire transcanada highway to the Liberal funds. Or using the public offical opposition website to raise funds for their party alone.

By the way, again this was perfectly ok with you liberals when it was you liberals doing it:
OTTAWA; QUEBEC CITY - Jean Chretien, the Prime Minister, yesterday said his government had nothing to apologize for in seeking to reap maximum partisan political benefit from disbursing $1-billion worth of federal job grants across Canada each year.

He had always made sure since taking power in October, 1993, that voters were left in no doubt that it was his Liberals who were distributing such grants, he said.

"Listen," he added, "we are the government ... I don't see why we can't try to get credit for what we do. I hope we do so. There is nothing to be ashamed in that."

Previously, Mr. Chretien and Jane Stewart, the Human Resources Minister, have insisted in Parliament that the $1-billion in grants for job creation, training, literacy and other projects were not allocated with the intention of gaining partisan advantage, but rather were designed to benefit ridings regardless of their political complexion.

Government funding is government funding and not a partisan gift giving. Any cheques coming from the government should only have the government logo on it and no other. I think its time the torys got back to working for the people of Canada and not just party faithful and the opposition parties should get their shit together and help make parliament work for a change.

The checks are under investigation and are a seperate thing. If the CPC are found wrong on the checks, will the Liberal party return all the donations they got using "official" Canadian opposition websites?

It's so sad that we need to get this petty and I really would like if we could move on to issues but we keep getting dragged down with this stupidity.

Who else would the official opposition website raise money for than the official opposition?

Well of course they knew it was the Liberals that gave them the infrastructure program. At the time, people were so disenfranchised with the previous Conservative government that the party was almost eliminated. And there would be no action plan without the Liberals this time either. They didn't need to put their logo on big huge cheques. The Conservative party has no right to do it this time.

The key difference is, the Liberals balanced the budget while delivering their action plan.

So once again we see that when the Lieberals are faced with the stench their own corruption they try to blame others or mitigate it.

"But the Cons would have done it worse..."

    "its a non-issue ..".

Its a non-issue only because its the Lieberals using government resources to raise money.

Get real. Nice homage btw.

The only people claiming everything is a non-issue are you cons who spout that about everything including the misplacement of secret NATO documents.

Harpers and the CONserveidiots were elected on a platform of accountability and their promise to eliminate this kind of thing and at every turn we see they are far worse then everything they cried the Libs were doing.
